Smartwatches have evolved beyond just fitness tracking and notifications. They have become an extension of how we live, train, and even sleep. One name that continues to stand out in the UK market is the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5.

But here in 2025, a valid question arises – is it still worth buying when newer models like the Watch 6 and Watch 7 are already on shelves? I have spent time with the Galaxy Watch 5, and in this review, I will walk you through everything you need to know, from its performance and features to pricing and long-term value.

What is the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5?

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 is a feature-packed smartwatch designed to blend style with functionality. Launched as a successor to the Galaxy Watch 4, it builds on Samsung’s vision of wearable tech that not only looks premium but also delivers health insights, fitness tracking, and smart notifications right on your wrist.

With its sleek design, robust AMOLED display, and improved sensors, it quickly became a popular choice among Android users. I see it as more than just a timepiece; it is a health companion, productivity booster, and even a sleep coach—all packed into a compact, wrist-worn device.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Design and Build Quality

Before getting into the tech side of things, let us talk about what it feels like to wear this watch every day. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 maintains a premium design that is both durable and stylish. The body is crafted from aluminium or sapphire crystal, depending on the variant, and it offers a smooth finish that pairs well with casual or formal wear.

It is not just about looks either. The build feels solid, and the Gorilla Glass DX+ screen holds up well against scratches. With an IP68 water and dust resistance rating, it handles rainy UK days or sweaty workouts with no issue.

Display Quality and User Experience of Samsung Galaxy Watch 5

The display is one of the first things that catches your attention. The Galaxy Watch 5 features a bright, crisp AMOLED display that remains easy to read even under direct sunlight. Touch response is smooth, and navigating through menus feels intuitive.

I especially appreciate the always-on display mode, which keeps the watch looking alive without draining the battery too quickly. Samsung has refined the Wear OS experience to make transitions smoother and apps faster to open, which enhances the daily user experience.

Features and Performance Overview of Samsung Galaxy Watch 5

When looking at whether a device is still worth it, features and performance matter the most. Here is what the Galaxy Watch 5 still brings to the table in 2025.

    1. Health and Fitness Tracking

The Galaxy Watch 5 offers robust health tracking features that still feel competitive.

    • Advanced Sleep Tracking: One of my favourite features is the sleep tracking. The watch gives you a detailed analysis of your sleep patterns, including deep sleep, REM, and disturbances. It even offers suggestions for improving sleep habits.
    • Body Composition Analysis: This feature is not just about weight. It analyses body fat percentage, skeletal muscle, and body water. I have used this consistently and found it to be surprisingly accurate, especially for a non-medical device.
    • Heart Rate and ECG Monitoring: In 2025, heart health awareness has grown. The Galaxy Watch 5 still includes an ECG app and 24/7 heart rate monitoring, helping you stay proactive about your health. I found the readings reliable when compared with standard medical devices.

    2. Battery Life and Charging Speed

Battery life is where the Galaxy Watch 5 is good, but not amazing. On average, I got around 1.5 days on a full charge. If you turn off the always-on display and limit notifications, it can stretch to two days.

What impressed me is the fast charging. Just 30 minutes on the charger gave me about 45 to 50 percent battery. This is incredibly handy when you are short on time but need juice for the rest of the day.

    3. App Ecosystem and Compatibility

The watch runs Wear OS powered by Samsung, and I found it more polished now than at launch. Access to Google Maps, Spotify, YouTube Music, and third-party apps feels fluid. It works best with Samsung Galaxy phones, but remains compatible with other Android devices too.

Sadly, iPhone users will find the experience limited, as some features are locked or less integrated. If you are a UK user with an Android phone, particularly from Samsung, the compatibility is spot on.

Pricing and Availability of Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 in the UK (2025)

Now for the part that most UK users are keen to know: the price. As of early 2025, the Galaxy Watch 5 is available for under £199 at most major retailers. That includes Amazon UK, Currys, and Samsung’s official store.

Given that its launch price was around £269, the current pricing makes it one of the best value options for those wanting flagship-level features without the premium tag.

You can also find certified refurbished units for even less, sometimes dropping below £150. For what it offers, that is excellent value.

Is the Galaxy Watch 5 Still Worth Buying in 2025?

This is the big question. Should you buy the Galaxy Watch 5 in 2025, or go for a newer model?

If you want the latest sensors or a slightly improved battery, the Watch 6 or 7 might tempt you. But here is my honest take: for most UK users, the Watch 5 is still a fantastic buy. It nails the basics, offers a smooth and smart experience, and covers almost everything the average user needs.

Unless you are chasing the newest gadget just for the sake of it, the Galaxy Watch 5 delivers on reliability, health tracking, and ease of use. And with its current price drop, it feels like a steal.

    Final Thoughts

In a tech landscape that moves fast, not every older device stays relevant. But the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 proves its staying power. From premium design and solid health tracking to a strong app ecosystem, it still ticks most boxes.

If you are in the UK and looking for a capable smartwatch without spending a fortune, I would confidently say yes – the Galaxy Watch 5 is still worth it in 2025.
